British feel good comedy drama The Phantom Of The Open is given a 12A age rating by the BBFC.

The British love a true life underdog movie, like 2015's Eddie the Eagle, and here they go again with a golfing movie about an amateur player who got into the open!.

The movie stars Mark Rylance as Maurice Flitcroft, the amateur golfer who was accepted into the open, and Sally Hawkins as his wife, it also stars Rhys Ifans.

The movie is directed by Craig Roberts who brought us Eternal Beauty in 2019 but is better know as one of the stars of Horrible Histories: The Movie - Rotten Romans.

Amateur golfer Maurice Flitcroft achieves his late-in-life goal of participating in the British Open Golf Championship, much to the ire of the staid golfing community.

Aladdin

First up at cinemas this week is Musical movie Aladdin directed by Guy Ritchie who also directed King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword in 2017 which grossed £4,887,487.

It stars Will Smith who last starred in Bright for Netflix and Mena Massoud who last appeared in Run This Town.

Rocketman

Next on the new release schedule is Rocketman, this new biographical movie stars Taron Egerton and Jamie Bell.

The film is brought to us by 4 time director Dexter Fletcher who's last film was Eddie The Eagle.

The Secret Life Of Pets 2

Also out this week is The Secret Life Of Pets 2 which is directed by Chris Renaud and Jonathan del Val directing together.

It stars Patton Oswalt and Kevin Hart.

The UK video chart this week has Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice stay at the top for a second week.

With the film not performing as well as expected at the box office and Warner Bros. releasing an extended version of video the film is selling really well.

Highest new film then lands at number 2 in the shape of Eddie the Eagle, a film released in the UK on April 8th 2016.

The film loosely based on the life of British Olympic ski jumper Eddie Edwards landed at number 2 on the box office help off the top spot by the Batman V Superman film.

A 5 week run on the box office top 15 and another 7 weeks at UK cinemas saw the film take £8.6 million in box office takings.

The film took $46 million is global grosses.

Also new this week is Batman The Killing Joke at number 5, although the film has been bubbling away in the lower regions of the chart for a couple of weeks.

Midnight Special enters at number 6 and Tale of Tales is new at number 16, finally Sing Street makes a debut at number 20.

After a very successful debut a the top of the box office last week Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice makes a dramatic 70% drop this week but retains its position with little competition.

A £4.6 million second weekend was probably bigger than was ever expected but the film after 10 days has grossed £27.8 million, but will likely start its decent next week.

Highest new film of the week is the semi bio-pic Eddie The Eagle which makes its debut at number 2.

The film about the much loved British ski jumping star takes £2.8 million for the weekend, although it did make its debut on Monday night so this is a full weeks takings.

Deadpool is still the highest total grossing film on the box office having now taken £37.6 million.

A year ago - Fast and Furious 7 made its stunning debut at the top of the box office knocking Cinderella from the top to number 2.

Five years ago - Hop made its very timely Easter debut at the top of the box office while Limitless fell to number 3 after a week at the top.

Ten years ago - Inside Man kept itself at the top of the chart for another week Failure to Launch debuted highest at number 2.

Fifteen years ago - Miss Congeniality remained at the top keeping off Save The Last Dance which debuted at number 2.

Twenty years ago - Toy Story stayed at the top leaving Oscar winning Dead Man Walking to debut at number 2.

Twenty five years ago - King Ralph made its debut a the top knocking Look Who's Talking Too down to number 2 after a week at the top.
